What is the precision investment casting process？

The investment casting process refers to making a model with wax, wrapping multiple layers of refractory materials such as clay and binder on its surface, heating the wax to melt and flow out, so as to obtain an empty shell formed by the refractory material, and then pour the metal after melting. Enter the hollow shell, and after the metal is cooled, the refractory material is crushed to obtain metal parts. This process of processing metal is called investment casting, also known as investment casting or lost wax casting.

The advantages of the investment casting process.

1. Excellent surface finish: The ceramic shell is made according to the wax pattern of the smooth surface. Applying ceramic to the wax mold and when you remove the wax you get a premium finish.

2. Complex near-net geometry: The wax pattern inside the ceramic is almost the final shape, and the properties of liquid ceramics can round out the wax pattern and any details thereof. When the wax is removed, the shape remains. So pour the molten metal into the casing and wait for it to cool. You will get the final geometry.

3. Wide range of alloys: The ceramic shell is very hard and can withstand the extreme heat of molten metal. The melting point of most metals is lower than the tolerance point of the enclosure. Therefore investment casting can be used for a variety of alloys.

4. Fine details: The liquid ceramic shell will distort all the details the wax model has, so the final product will have fine details.
